‘In the Name of Honour, 2017 is a series where I confront the pervasive issue of honour-based violence against women. Drawing upon my own experiences of domestic abuse rooted in notions of honour, this series delves into the complex dynamics and devastating consequences that arise when cultural norms and misplaced ideas of honour collide.

As the title suggests, the series focuses on exploring the profound impact of honour-based violence, particularly within the context of postcolonial 1st generation immigrants of Pakistani origins who have settled in the UK. 

Despite the passage of time and societal progress, their adherence to traditional beliefs often perpetuates a cycle of violence, leaving a lasting imprint on the lives of the second generation of young British Asian women. Through this series, I aim to shed light on the psychological, emotional, and physical trauma endured by these women, urging for change and intervention.

Through thought-provoking visual representations, installations, and mixed media, ‘In the Name of Honour’ tells the stories of those affected by honour-based violence, highlighting the lasting scars that domestic abuse leaves behind. Each piece serves as a testament to the harmful impact of cultural norms and the need for society to address this issue with urgency and compassion.

By presenting these narratives with sensitivity and empathy, the series aims to raise awareness, challenge societal attitudes, and spark dialogue. It calls for collective action to dismantle harmful traditions, create safe spaces for survivors, and foster a society that prioritises the rights, well-being, and dignity of all individuals, irrespective of their cultural backgrounds.
